The Indian Railway i.e Ministry of Railways (Rail Mantralya) through notification No.2011/TG-I/20/P/Tatkal dated 16.01.2012 has included Aadhaar card as valid proofs of identity with other 8 other valid identity proofs. Aadhaar card is a Unique Identification number which is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India on behalf of government of India. Using Aadhaar card number for the reservation of Train Tickets or for the booking of the Tickets in the trains no agents will be involved this means less corruption in railway booking. Also to tackle corruption in railway ticket booking or removal of agents from ticket counters, Indian railway IT Cell has started tracking computers IP Address for checking whether same IP address is used for continuous railway ticket booking so that they can block the e-ticket booking access from that IP address. Now while booking tatkal tickets passenger has to give copy of valid identity proof, By this scheme the middleman will be blocked who are operating at the booking counters and which will be result in availability of tickets to the common person or the common passengers can get tickets through counter and online.
To check the problem of transferred ticket or booking done through agents in the name of fake persons and then agents selling the tickets to end-user or final travels for commission. Indian railway has made the compulsory for passenger to carry their original photo identity card for Tatkal ticket and e-ticket during the course of railway journey. And to avoid undue harassment to passenger due to checking of original identity proof only one of the passengers/the passenger booked on the tickets issued from computerized Passenger Reservation System (PRs) and internet (i-ticket), undertaking journey in AC-3 tier, AC-2 tier, 1st AC, AC Chair Car and Executive Classes, will also have to carry any one of the nine prescribed proofs of identity (in original) during the journey and produce the same as and when required failing which all the passengers booked on that ticket will be treated as without ticket and charged accordingly.
The list of valid proofs of identity are as under:-
- Voter Photo identity card issued by Election Commission of India.
- Passport.
- PAN Card issued by Income Tax Department.
- Driving Licence issued by RTO.
- Photo identity card having serial number issued by Central/State Government.
- Student Identity Card with photograph issued by recognized school/College for their students.
- Nationalised Bank Passbook with photograph
- Credit Cards issued by Banks with laminated photograph.
- Unique Identification Card ”AAdhaar”
