By | May 12, 2017

Why government wants to link aadhaar with PAN Card and whats its going to achieve by Linking Aadhaar Number to PAN Number (Permanent Account Number)? On November 8th Shri Narendra Modi Led BJP Government has issued the notification for demonetization of old Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency note for fight the corruption, black money and terrorism and Post demonetization Modi Government is taking different measure to fight corruption some might feel that measure taken by Govt. are harsh or waste of public time or waste of resources of Indian public but looking it from long term perspective they might act as boon for Indian economy as they are surely going to increase tax compliance which will lead to higher tax collection and less corruption. Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitely  has presented the Indian Budget for FY 2017-2018 and issued the dictate the all the PAN card holders must link their Aadhaar Number to PAN Number by 30th June 2017 otherwise they wont be able to file their Income Tax return for FY 2016-17 i.e. AY 2017-18 and reason for same is that individual are misusing the PAN system by applying and holding Multiple PAN card (Which is an punishable offence read How to Cancel Duplicate PAN Card)  its and step towards stopping financial crime and fraud as aadhaar number is based on your biometric details like fingerprint & retina scan, so all those not linking PAN with Aadhaar can’t file their ITR (Income Tax Returns) and Now person can’t get multiple PAN card to defraud the financial institution because your PAN is link to CIBIL and in case individual defaults in repayment same is updated in CIBIL score and CIBIL is updated on monthly basis.

Now How to link PAN to Aadhaar Number

when scheme was launched public was facing problem of aadhar details mismatch with PAN details like

Name Spelling Not Matching with Aadhar or PAN NO

Date of Birth Not Matching with AADHAAR CARD

but most common problem was Name Spelling in PAN card Number not matching with AADHAR Number so to solve this problem Income Tax Department has made it very simple by allowing Tax payers with option to approve the request using OTP but one should note that your aadhaar should be link to your mobile

It was reported that taxpayers were finding it difficult as their names did not match in both systems (Eg. Names with initials in one and expanded initials in another). Responding to such grievances, the Dept has come out with a simple solution now.

Just go to www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and click on the link on the left pane -> Link Aadhaar. Provide PAN, Aadhaar no. and ENTER NAME EXACTLY AS GIVEN IN AADHAAR CARD (avoid spelling mistakes) and submit. After verification from UIDAI, the linking will be confirmed.

Once you click on LINK AADHAAR on Incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in  it will take you to other page will ask for PAN Number, AADHAAR Number and Name as per AADHAR Number

In case of any minor mismatch in Aadhaar name provided by you when compared to the actual data in Aadhaar, One Time Password (Aadhaar OTP) will be sent to the mobile registered with Aadhaar which has to be provided. Please ensure that the date of birth and gender in PAN and Aadhaar are exactly same. There is no need to login or be registered on E-filing website. This facility can be used by anyone to link their Aadhaar with PAN.

In a rare case where Aadhaar name is completely different from name in PAN, then the linking will fail and taxpayer will be prompted to change the name in either Aadhaar or in PAN database.
