The Income tax department offers an online facility for tracking your income tax refund and its status. Taxpayers can view the status only after 10 days after their refund has been sent by the Assessing officer to the Refund Banker.
Tax refunds can be made in two different modes to the tax payer:
- RTGS/NEFT: In this way the tax payer receives the refund direct in his bank A/c. Therefore the tax payer needs to give correct information about his bank a/c (10 digits), MICR/IFSC code of the bank branch and required communication address.
- Bank Cheque: Here the tax payer would be sent a cheque, therefore his bank a/c and proper address is mandatory information to be filled in.
To check income tax refund status online:
- Login to the NSDL website
- Enter PAN No. and Assessment year for which you need refund.
- Click on submit.
