Aadhaar card accept as a valid proof of identity and address for PAN, Passport, Bank Account, IRCTC, Insurance Policy, Demat

Central Government agencies has started accepting the Aadhaar card as a valid proof of identity and also as a address proof. Government Department like Income Tax Department for PAN card, Central Board of Direct Tax (CBDT), RBI(Reserve Bank of India) for Bank Account opening KYC, Employee Provident Fund Organisation, Election Commission (Voter Identity Proof) , Passport Office of India for New Passport or Renewal of Passport, SEBI for Mutual Fund KYC or New Demat Account KYC, Government Agencies has instructed the public authorities like IRDA for the Insurance companies for new policies, Gas and Electricity connection companies, Indian Railway (IRCTC) during new ticket booking and also during traveling, Indian Post for opening new RD, Saving Account to accept Addhar card as photo Identity and Address proof.

Aadhaar is a 12-digit individual identification number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on behalf of Government of India. Now the Income tax department will accept the Aadhaar card as a valid identification proof and address proof for issuance of Permanent Account Number (PAN). And the Central Board of Direct Tax (CBDT) has issued a notification to add Aadhaar card as a proof of identity and address in the list of documents.

And  the Reserve bank of India (RBI) has issued a notification from August 2013 that Aadhaar card accepted as a valid proof of identity and address to opening a bank account under KYC (know your customer) Scheme. SEBI issue a circular on August 13, 2012 has informed that Aadhaar card accept as the valid proof of identity and address under the KYC (know your client) norms.

Now Aadhaar card accepted as a valid proof of identity and address by all Insurance companies. You can submit your Aadhaar card and get insured or buy any policy from Insurance companies of India. Insurance Regulatory Authority of India (IRDI) has considered Aadhaar card as a valid proof of identity and address for applicant to buy any insurance policy from anywhere in India. IRDI officially announced Aadhaar card recognized as Know Your Customer (KYC) for the Insurance Sector in India. Now all Insurance companies take decision to implement Aadhaar card accept as a valid and standard document for identity of individual insurances.

The Ministry of External Affairs has decided and accordingly advised all Passport Issuing Authorities to accept Aadhaar Letter/Card as proof of  address (PoA) and Photo identity (PoI) in conjunction with any other  prescribed documents for proof of address/identity for the purpose of  passport application.

This is further clarified that the acknowledgement receipt issued by  the UID authorities while applying for Aadhaar card does not constitute Aadhaar Letter/Card. An Aadhaar Letter/Card contains 12 digits Aadhaar No., which would only be accepted as PoI and PoA by Passport Issuance Authorities (PIAs). A sample copy of Aadhaar Letter/Card is enclosed for reference.
